So Why Is Barbecuing So Popular

Barbequing is an American tradition. Each year, statistics show that at least 90% of families attend at least one barbeque party or celebration. About 40% of families delight in throwing parties that center around the idea of barbequing. You might be wondering why barbequing is such a popular pastime.

You may have often heard people commenting "that it just tastes better" when they are referring to grilling on a barbeque. Every one I know starts to salivate at the first whiff of a steak grilling on a barbeque.

There are many types of meats and side dishes that are perfect for barbequing. Fish, pork, beef are traditionally the most popular types of meat for grilling. Some grocery stores will have meats cut and packaged for barbequing. If you like to do your own flavors stock up on tasty marinates and spices to prepare your own culinary delights.

Traditional side dishes include potato salad, beans, and coleslaw. These sides work well with the variety of meats available and are easy to prepare and store until it is time to eat.

A condiment bar should have pickles, relish and onions.

For different flavors in your meat you can try different styles of grills. The grilled 'smoked' flavor is probably one of the most well known flavors and favorite of barbequing. Many barbequers like to experiment with different types of wood to get slightly different flavors. For a faster grilling time you can use a propane grill but you won't get the nice smoky flavor.

With a grilling barbeque you can get a few different types of cooking surfaces as well. These different cooking surfaces include a brazier grill, a flat grill, and a ribbed grill. Some grills even offer these types of surfaces as non stick, which allow you to cook a whole array of foods that you would not be able to cook on a grill otherwise. With a bit of planning there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to cook an entire meal, including side dishes, on the barbeque.

With the many options of addon cooking surfaces you can cook anything from stir fries to rotisserie chickens.

Barbequing might also be popular because it's a great excuse to have a get together or a party.

Not much can beat having a beer and chatting with friends while you are actually cooking the meal.

Barbeques also tie in well with a themed party. A few festive decorations won't cost much and can be purchased from your local store or party shop. Table cloths and other decorations like Tiki torches can be re-used later. Tropical music and a bit of sand can do wonders for a beach themed party.

Finally, barbequing is popular because it can be considered a hobby as well. Barbequing with any skill takes time and practice like everything else in life. It can be fun to play and experiment with different techniques and recipes. By learning the basics you will soon be comfortable creating your own unique style and tastes.
